The Benefits of International Adoptions
International infant adoptions offers many benefits and very few hardships. There are many positive aspects of an international infant adoption. Usually, there are many children to adopt of both sexes and they range in age from infants to older children. As soon as your home study has been accepted you are able to get a child.
- When you adopt a child internationally you will know how long it will take to get the child, (usually 12 to 18 months).
- You won’t need to worry about the natural mother changing her mind because the children from international adoptions are mostly orphans.
- You will become the parent of the child once you agree to a referral and you will also know in advance how much the adoption fees will be.
- The chance to travel to another country.
There some negative aspects of the adoption. You will not be able to get a newborn, most of the infants will be at least 4 months old. The heritage and medical background of the child may not be known. The children may have some developmental problems, but it shouldn’t be anything thing they cannot overcome. You will be required to do a lot of paperwork.
An international infant adoption will mean that you will need to follow the laws and regulations of our country and the country that you are adopting from. Each country will have conditions for the adoptions. Age limits, number of children in home, gender, martial stability and income guidelines.
Some of the steps for international infant adoption can be difficult. You will need to decide which country you would like to adopt from. It is important to think about the cultural differences and whether you will be able to deal with them. Talk to your family and friends to get their opinions and thoughts on what might be relevant to the adoption. You might ask them how they would feel about it. Your marital status and age will help narrow down what countries you will be able to adopt from.
Once you have made a decision on a country, you will need to choose an adoption agency to help with the rest of the details. When you choose an agency you will need to feel comfortable working with them. Make sure they will be able to handle international infant adoptions. Once you have chosen an adoption agency to work with, it will be time to begin the paperwork. You will be assigned a social worker to handle your adoption case. You and any children in your home will be interviewed by the social worker and they will want to interview your friends and family. This is what is known as an international home study.
As soon as the home study has been accepted, it will be time to collect the paperwork to put in your dossier. A dossier is required for an international infant adoption. All of the documents will need to be signed and notorized. They will then be sent for translation and approved. As soon as the dossier is finished and accepted you will start receiving referrals of children for adoption. When you have accepted a referral, you are almost finished. It will be time to travel to the country where you are adopting the child from, have a court appearance, then usually 10 days after the court date you will be able to bring your new child home to meet the family.
