Infant Adoption Agencies

Finding Reputable Infant Adoption Agencies

When you are about to adopt a child, it can be the most challenging and rewarding time in you life.  Finding infant adoption agencies that are reputable and trustworthy is one of the most important decisions in the adoption process. Whether you adopt an infant or older child, finding the correct infant adoption agency can make or break the entire process.

It is important to note, that the adoption agencies will be dealing with very delicate matters, so it is critical to find a reputable agency.  Most infant adoption agencies are licensed by the state and required to obey strict regulations and inspections.

All to often, some people will just open up the phone book and call the first number they come across.  This is not the proper way to proceed.  Do not choose your adoption agency with the best advertisement or the nicest website on the internet.

When making a decision about an adoption agency, you must take different factors into consideration.  If you have decided to adopt a child internationally, then the agency must specialize in this type of adoption.  When adopting an older child look for an agency that handles this type of adoption.  Different types of adoption will require specialized knowledge in different areas of law and of the region you are adopting the children from.

You can begin by researching adoption agencies in your local area.  There are also adoption groups where you can ask for referrals.  Family and friends who may have been involved in an adoption may be able to give a recommendation about an infant adoption agency they have dealt with.  Another great resource to check is your family doctor.

Do not make any decisions until you have checked and properly researched at least 4 or 5 infant adoption agencies.  Contact your state’s department of social services, they will be able to tell you about any complaints or citations received against any adoption agency you may be considering.  Then you can look into a potential agency and make a decision based on your referrals and recommendations from the research you have done.

When you begin contacting the adoption agencies ask them if they are currently taking applications.  Find out if they are willing to give you names of families who have previously used them to adopt a child.  Remember, they will only give you names of people who have been happy with their services, but at least it will give you some inside information.

Several questions that you can ask the adoption agencies are:  How many adoptions have they done in the past several years, do they estimate approximately the same number in the current year.  Do they have certain criteria for people looking to adopt, such as a certain martial status?  Would they be willing to waive any of their criteria for an infant adoption of a special needs child.

Choosing trustworthy infant adoption agencies is very important.  Make sure you take your time to do the proper research and to choose your adoption agency wisely.  You will be making a decision that will affect many lives. The right choice will bring much love and happiness into you lives.
