Christian Adoption Agencies
Now that you have compiled a list of Christian adoption agencies, how do you go about evaluating their services and determine which one will benefit your particular adoption needs? You will need to go through a series of steps to accomplish your goal.
Find out what type of adoption services the agency offers. Some will offer domestic adoption services, international adoption services or both. If you find an agency that only facilitates Christian international adoptions, they will not be suitable if you want to adopt a child from the United States.
Ask the agency if they are affiliated with a certain denomination. The majority of Christian adoption agencies are interdenominational. If however, you are Catholic, you may be more comfortable in dealing with a Catholic agency. The same will apply if you are a Protestant, you may prefer working with a Protestant adoption agency.
Have a discussion with the Christian adoption agencies explaining what services they provide. Some adoption agencies will do your home study, match the parents with the child and do post placement evaluations. Some agencies will only provide the service of matching you with the child and you will need to get your home study done elsewhere.
Find out what types of services they offer the birth families. You will want to make sure the birth families are treated ethically and with respect. Does the agency offer counseling on pregnancy for the birth mother? Is counseling offered for the birth mother after the child has been placed in a new home? Some Christian adoption agencies will have retreats and bring in speakers as a ministry to the birth mothers.
Be sure to discuss with Christian adoption agencies what they consider the terms open adoption and closed adoption to mean. Some people will have a different meaning of what the two terms mean or imply. When you communicate with the adoption agency, make sure you understand the terms and information that is being discussed.
